Analysis
Aston Villa
Aston Villa’s attacking instincts were finally rewarded with Malen’s two-goal performance. Their midfield duo of Kamara and Tielemans protected clean sheets, and they were ever more important in creating chances for others. The same vulnerabilities on set pieces are concerning again, as evidenced by Ugochukwu’s goal. Additionally, an injury to Buendía could be a significant loss for Villa’s attacking options in the forthcoming weeks.
Burnley
Burnley again struggled to assert themselves in open play in this match, producing two shots on goal overall. While set pieces were their strength in this match, and they caused Villa problems, the same defensive vulnerabilities against quick transitions need to be rectified. Burnley is still looking for their first league win on the road.
Man of the Match
Donyell Malen (Aston Villa): The Dutch forward took both chances clinically and was the difference in the contest, scoring both of Villa’s goals.
Conclusion
Aston Villa secured a deserved 2-1 victory and jumped into 13th spot in the points table. Malen’s finishing was sharp, and evidently, the squad will tighten up defensively and eliminate any late-game shocks. Burnley was commendably strong defensively, but obviously lacks sufficient attacking output.
