The Spanish side Celta Vigo and the English side Wolverhampton reached an agreement on Tuesday(17th June) for the transfer of Fer López for around €25M, as per journalist Fabrizio Romano. At 96.com, we cover Fer López’s football journey every step of the way. Here’s everything you need to know.
The playmaker will undergo a medical examination on Wednesday in England to formalize his contract in the Premier League, where the Celta youth player will arrive at just 21 years old and after a brief spell with the Vigo team, with whom he only played 17 matches in the First Division and 3 in the Copa del Rey.
The agreement between the two clubs came after the English club revealed its interest in Fer López last week as a candidate to replace Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha, who was transferred by Wolves to Manchester United for €73 million.
Negotiations with Celta have accelerated due to the interest of Fer López’s agent, Portuguese Jorge Mendes, in seeking a promising reinforcement for the team chaired by his partner, Guo Guangchang. The Chinese businessman owns 20% of the company Gestifute, with which the Celta youth player signed a few months ago after debuting with the first team after outstanding appearances with Celta Fortuna.
Celta Vigo did not take advantage of Fer López’s incredible jump into the elite and signed the player who seemed to be Iago Aspas’ successor. The €20 million buyout clause in his contract was very tempting for an agent like Jorge Mendes, accustomed to closing some of the most important transfers in recent football history.
If the figure advanced by Fabrizio Romano is confirmed, Celta would obtain greater economic benefits than expected, but will not be able to satisfy the many fans who regret not being able to enjoy at least for a full season the player trained in A Madroa who has generated the greatest expectations in recent times at Balaídos.
Fer López recently enjoyed a holiday on the Greek islands with Strand Larsen and Celtic’s Williot Swedberg. The Norwegian will have told him about life at Wolverhampton and his experience in the Premier League, where he arrived last summer from Vigo, making the same trip that awaits the Vigo midfielder. Both deals bear the seal of Jorge Mendes, the super agent who continues to recruit promising youngsters for Wolves.
